First nail art post!

Over the past few years, I have been quite obsessed with nail polish ever since I bought my first bottle of pink. Now I have quite the collection, especially of pinks and purples and continue to spend most of my visits to the cosmetic store in the nail care section. I am definitely no expert but I love to experiment with all kinds of nail art and thought I'd share them with you, starting with this criss-cross design.

To create this look, I first painted all my nails in beige as the base, then used black polish that had a thin brush to create the stripes. If you are thinking of starting to create nail designs, I strongly recommend you invest in some black nail polish as black works with any other colour and gives a really bold effect to your design.

DIY Crane Curtain

Looking to add a little colour to your room?
Try these crane curtains.

I'm sure we have all made origami cranes at some point, these colour cranes are a creative way to add a splash of colour to your white door and a special feature to your room.

If you got a light breeze going, its always fun to watch them fly around, they almost seem like they are mingling!

Here's what you will need:
  • a threading needle
  • colourful string
  • colourful paper

And here's how to make it.

Step 1
You want to plan the colour arrangement of the birds and string before you start anything else. The arrangement is really up to you, be creative.

Step 2
Get your coloured paper and cut out a 10cm x 10cm square. Then fold a paper crane. Click here for a youtube tutorial I followed.

Step 3
Thread a piece of string from the top point of the body of the crane.

Step 4
Secure the crane's position on the string by tying a knot at its base.

Then just continue to make more cranes until you have enough for a string. Then make a few more strings of cranes for a curtain. Bluetack them to your door frame, a wall or wherever you want them to fly around.

DIY Jewellery Hanger

The other day I was sorting through my jewellery box, as you do and I realised just how the box really did nothing to sort and organise my jewellery. Every time I do sort through everything and even after the untangling, I somehow always end up with the same mess a week or two later, with incomplete pairs of earrings and tangled necklaces. So I thought there must be a better way to sort jewellery and did a quick google search on how other people organised their jewellery. Many used some kind of store-bought rack, but if you're anything like me I like to use what I already have. So I made one.

This DIY is very simple, only takes a few minutes and the best part is you probably already have all the materials required sitting at home.

All you need is:
  • a coat hanger
  • a spiral from an old notebook or calender
  • pliers (optional)

Steps:
1. Open and remove the spiral, be sure not to twist it too much

2. Gently clasp the spiral so it is hooked onto the coat hanger

3. Stretch the spiral evenly so that it reaches beyond the curve of the coat hanger, this ensures that the spiral will not move around

 And you're done!

Your jewellery items are now secure, clutter free and most importantly visible at a glance, so no more having  to rummage through everything! Hang your jewellery anyway you want, you can even stretch the spiral more if you need more in between jewellery pieces, its flexible. What I love most about this jewellery hanger is that you can even hang stud earrings as I do tend to wear studs more than hoops. As with all jewellery hangers make sure that you don't hang too many necklaces next to each other as they will begin to tangle, separate them by hanging rings or earrings in between.

Hope you enjoyed this DIY tutorial. Be sure to let me know how it goes if you do try this out or if you have any questions. Of course, if you have an even better way of organising jewellery please share!

People who inspire me

Natalie Tran (Community Channel)
I must admit that Natalie is a bit of a neurotic... but so am I. Her hilarious youtube videos have given me so much to laugh about. I look forward to all her videos be it 2 weeks, or even a year late (Where's that lamington video you promised? We will never let it go :P). I love how she is not afraid to speak the truth nor will she hesitate to make a joke at her own expense.

DIY Dreamcatcher

It's good to dream. Dreams are where people get their inspiration, its a place where we overlook the surreal only to realise how bizarre our imagination can be when we wake up. But sometimes bad dreams can get in the way. This is where dream catchers come in. Making a dream catcher is super simple, all you need is a little patience. You can make one as an ornament on your wall, to hang on your bed frame or even as a necklace, you can hang it wherever. To give it that personal touch, add something to it that has sentimental value like a shell from the beach you collected as a child.

Some things you'll need:
  • an unwanted bangle (or if you don't have this, you can twist a circle from an old coat hanger)
  • some colourful string
  • a few beads/feathers
  • a threading needle
  • scissors
Follow this tutorial to start making your dream catcher.

Have fun and sweet dreams.
